Acne Scar Treatment
one is a skin condition, which involves oil glands, present at the base of the hair follicles. Acne usually appears at puberty when the oil glands become active under the influence of androgens (male sex hormones). The areas which are commonly affected are the face, back, and chest. Acne is commonly seen in teenagers but can persist well into adulthood. Side effects of certain medications may also cause acne.
There are two categories of Acne:
1. Non-inflamed acne – presents with whiteheads and blackheads
2. Inflamed acne – presents with papules or red bumps, pustules, or in severe cases, nodules and cysts. Most of the time both types of acne coexist.
Acne can leave scars on your face and shake your confidence for life. While good personal hygiene is important, it is, unfortunately, not a cure for acne, nor are the home remedies. You must consult a dermatologist for treating acne and preventing scarring.
At L A Skin, we assess the condition of your skin, and if required, a blood workup is done to rule out any hormonal or metabolic disturbance. After understanding the cause of your acne, a customized treatment plan is formulated, and progress is monitored periodically.
Medical Treatment – includes topical anti-acne agents, appropriate oral medication, and adjunctive skin care. A typical treatment course takes 6 months to 1 year.
Acne Surgery – During the initial course of treatment, it may be required to do extractions of blackheads and whiteheads, drain pustules, nodules, cysts, and abscesses or inject acne cysts with very low dose triamcinolone. The main purpose of this surgery is to clean the clogged pores, minimize new acne outbreaks, shorten the duration of healing, and prevent scarring.
Microdermabrasion – The peeling and vacuuming process helps to unclog the pores and give a smoother, even look, and fade dark spots from the previous acne.
Chemical peel – Glycolic acid or salicylic acid peels help in superficial exfoliation of the skin which helps in the resolution of mild to moderate acne as well as improves skin texture and reduces scars. Mild exfoliation may be visible for 1-3 days after the peel.
Helios laser – Active acne is immediately reduced by the laser beam leading to quick healing. It improves the skin tone, texture, and removes blackheads.
Secret Microneedle RF – Radiofrequency energy is used for the treatment of active acne and acne scars. It delivers heat energy directly to the lower layers of the dermis resulting in new collagen formation, thereby improving acne and acne scars. It overall rejuvenates your skin giving it a fresh new look.
